Leadership and Staff

Our Pastor and Elders

As Presbyterians, the pastor and elders as a group lead the church.  They are responsible for overseeing the spiritual care and growth of the congregation, including the Christian nurture and teaching at BPC.  Additionally, our elders assist in leading our worship services.

Dr. Mantle A. Nance
Pastor
Dr. Nance became BPC’s pastor in November of 2014 and faithfully serves the church in many ways, most notably by preaching morning and evening each Sunday. He received a B.A. in Religion Furman University and an M.Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary. His Ph.D. was earned from The University of Aberdeen in Historical Theology, and his dissertation was on the Trinitarian theology of 19th Century southern Presbyterianism. He is married to Sally and has two sons, Jackson and Aaron.
Kenneth Jackson
Elder
Kenneth chairs our Missions committee. He is married to Catie, and they have seven children. Kenneth works for Amazon Web Services with their financial services customers.
Dr. Brian Jerby
Elder
Brian has been a Christian for more than 30 years, and his spiritual gifts include teaching. He oversees the Women’s Ministry at BPC. He is a physician with a special interest in functional medicine. Brian and his wife Susan have ten children.
Dennis Kachmarsky
Elder
Dennis is married to Joanne, and they have two adult children and a granddaughter. He works as a consulting engineer in Uptown Charlotte. Dennis is the Clerk of the session and serves on the Personnel Committee.
Mark Seeley
Elder
Mark has been an elder at BPC since its beginning. He currently oversees the Christian Education Ministry. Mark has been married to Nancy for more than 40 years, and they have four children and eight grandchildren. He earned an MDiv degree from Reformed Theological Seminary in 1980.
Bob Stone
Elder
Bob has served as an elder for eighteen years and currently oversees the interns and church Personnel. He and his wife Polly have two children. Bob works for Bank of America and manages their global supplier relationships.

Our Deacons

All of the physical needs of the church are tended to by the deacons.  This includes our mercy ministry, finances, and building and grounds maintenance and upkeep.  The deacons are exemplary servants of Christ and his church, and they encourage all members to use their gifts and talents for Christ.

Sam Bullard
Sam is responsible for internal mercy needs, serves on the Outreach Committee, and co-teaches a children’s Sunday School class with his wife, Wink. They have two adult sons and operate The Furniture Network, an office furniture dealership.
Rob Kelley
Rob is responsible for the building and grounds. He is married to Christie, and they have two children. Rob works at Premier Water, a manufacturer’s representative that sells equipment for water and wastewater treatment.
Keith Kowadlo
Keith is the leader of the Men’s Discipleship Ministry. He has been married to Susan for 33 years and they have two grown daughters. He retired from the US Army in 1996 and works as a construction consultant with the federal government.
Jake Spencer
Jake serves as chairman of the deacons and is responsible for mercy ministries. He is a North Carolina native and a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. Jake and his wife Marilyn have attended BPC for over 10 years, and they have two children. Jake works in IT at Bank of America.
Tim Teague
Tim serves as secretary for the board of deacons. He is married to Cindy, and they have two children. Tim works in commercial mortgage servicing at a large national bank in Charlotte.

Our Staff

The staff serve as the backbone of making sure the day-to-day operations and ministry of the church are in working order.  They work tirelessly in service to BPC.

Dr. Catharine ("Catie") Jackson
Music Director
Dr. Jackson and her husband Kenneth joined Ballantyne Presbyterian Church in the fall of 2000. Catie has music degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, the University of South Carolina, and the University of Iowa. Catie & Kenneth have seven children and are passionate about adoption and pursuing truth, goodness, and beauty in all things.
Christie Kelley
Administrative Assistant
Christie grew up at nearby Crowders Mountain in Gastonia, NC. In 1996, she received her BS degree in Psychology from Appalachian State University. In 1998 she moved to Charlotte to pursue her career in Human Resources. She and her beloved husband, Rob, met in Charlotte, joined BPC, and were married in 2002. Christie was very thankful to be a stay at home mom after the birth of their children, Trey and Anna. She has served in many roles at BPC and is currently the Administrative Assistant to the Pastor and nursery scheduler.
Jason Piland
Pastoral Assistant
Jason is a student at Reformed Theological Seminary and is an intern at BPC. Jason and his wife, Erika, moved from Nashville, Tennessee to Charlotte for Jason to begin seminary in 2016. Since moving here, they have had their first son, Wesley. Jason’s primary role at the church is leading the youth group, but he also assists Dr. Nance with many other functions.
Nancy Seeley
Women's Ministry Coordinator
Nancy has served as Coordinator of the Women’s Ministry since 2011. She and her husband Mark met while they were students at Cedarville University. Married for more than 40 years, they have four grown children and eight grandchildren. Nancy has served in various roles in the Church and Christian organizations throughout the years but finds special joy in encouraging women in their walk with the Lord with a focus on His Word.
Marilyn Spencer
Treasurer
Marilyn Spencer joined Ballantyne Presbyterian in 2003 and serves as the church's Treasurer. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Colgate University and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and IRS Enrolled Agent. She is married to Jake and the mother of two young children.
